Sad News

This week has been quite a breakthrough in blogging, I hate to end it with this sad note.

But for those who hadn't realized it, legendary trumpet player for James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic and Bootsy's Rubber Band, Richard "Kush" Griffith

passed away June 17th from a long bout with diabetes.

Earlier this month in Louisville, a fundraising benefit was performed by Maceo Parker and fellow musicians to assist Kush who had been in poor health for quite some time.

I spoke to Kush about a month ago.  At the time, he was itching to get back into the studio on future Bootsy projects.

Back in the day, he had quite the imagination.  He wanted me to draw him as Captain Punishment, ready to take the fake-ateers to the Abusement Park.

When I last spoke to him about it, he admitted to have softened his view.

He was a kinder gentler Kush.

Rest in peace Kush Griffith.  You'll forever live in Funk Music History.
